The Indian Hallmark

Three marks help identify a hallmarked gold article.

According to the Bureau of Indian Standards, the current hallmark consists of the BIS logo, the purity expressed in karat and fineness, and a six-digit alphanumeric HUID.

The HUID is unique to each hallmarked item and can be checked through the Verify HUID feature in the BIS Care app.

Look closely at the complete set of marks.

A hallmark is an official record of precious-metal fineness. It should be considered alongside the invoice, product description and any stone-related documentation supplied with the piece.
